Cover & conceal breakouts

If you’re hoping to cover and conceal unwanted blemishes with makeup, here are some steps to follow to achieve smooth and natural looking skin.

1. Start with a clean face

Start by prepping the skin. Use a gentle, non-comedogenic oil-free cleanser. Use cool water to soothe and calm the skin. Follow with a moisturiser to hydrate and balance oil production.

2. Choose a full-coverage foundation

If you’re going out and want a more dramatic look, opt for a foundation that is full coverage and long-wearing. Consider using a foundation that contains salicylic acid if you’re dealing with acne, as it may help to control breakouts.

3. Apply concealer

Use a concealer to cover specific blemishes or red spots. Choose a concealer that matches your skin tone and has good coverage. Dab a small amount directly onto the blemish and blend the edges gently. You can also use a green-tinted concealer to neutralize redness before applying your regular shade.

 4. Set with powder

Set your foundation and concealer with a translucent setting powder. This helps to prevent shine and ensures that your makeup stays in place throughout the day. Mineral makeup is a great choice, they contain titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, two ingredients that act as a physical sunscreen to shield the skin from damaging UV rays.

5. Use a beauty blender or makeup sponge

Consider applying foundation and concealer with a damp beauty blender or makeup sponge. This can help achieve a more natural and seamless finish, especially when dealing with textured areas. Make sure to always clean it, as it can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

 6. Remove makeup properly

At the end of the day, make sure to remove your makeup thoroughly to prevent build-up and breakouts. Use a gentle makeup remover or cleansing oil followed by a mild cleanser. Use moisturises after cleaning your face to restore balance and prevent drying out your skin.

7. Don’t neglect the brushes

It’s important to wash your makeup brushes to avoid harmful bacteria build up and make up contamination. Rinse your brushes with lukewarm water, and use a face wash or brush shampoo to remove build up and residue.
